Priya Fielding-Singh is a Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology at Stanford University studying the social reproduction of inequality, with a focus on health. In her dissertation, The Taste of Inequality: Food and the Reproduction of Social Class, she examines how families’ socioeconomic circumstances shape the food that parents and children eat. She uses in-depth interviews, participant observations, and surveys to understand how families across the socioeconomic spectrum think about, purchase, and consume food - and the implications of that consumption for their health. Her research has been published in Sociological Science, Social Science and Medicine, and Appetite. Prior to Stanford, Priya earned a B.S. in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University and a M.A. in Cultural Studies from the University of Bremen, Germany.
