Type of poverty: Classic deindustrializing

Detroit is widely regarded as the classic deindustrializing form of poverty, with its main distinguishing features being extremely high rates of unemployment (15.2 percent), an especially high concentration of poverty among African Americans, and an overall poverty rate, 39.3 percent, that is second highest in the country.
